Answers to Your Biggest Site Prep Questions
What to Know Before You Break Ground
We field a lot of questions from contractors, developers, and municipalities across the Kootenays about how we operate. Because FAFO handles massive, heavy-duty projects, the logistics matter. To make your planning phase easier, we’ve rounded up the most common questions we get regarding our integrated site prep, mobile crushing, and retaining wall services. Here is how we keep your projects moving.
The Integrated Heavy Civil Process
Can FAFO handle my entire site prep from start to finish?
Absolutely. That is our specialty. By keeping drilling, blasting, mobile crushing, and mass excavation all under one roof, we eliminate subcontractor delays and scheduling bottlenecks. You deal with one contractor from the initial blast to the final grade.
Where do you offer your services?
We are based in the East Kootenay and handle major projects throughout Cranbrook, the Elk Valley, the Columbia Valley, and the Okanagan. For large-scale mobile crushing and heavy haul logistics, we regularly deploy across British Columbia.
Mobile Crushing & Aggregate Production
What is the benefit of on-site mobile crushing?
Why pay to haul waste rock away and pay again to truck in fresh aggregate? We bring our high-capacity crushers directly to your site or pit. We recycle your blast rock or demolished concrete into high-quality, spec-compliant road base and aggregate right where you need it.
Can you process rock into custom specs?
Yes. Whether you need structural sand, drain rock, or tightly graded road base, our jaw and cone crushers are calibrated to meet strict municipal and provincial engineering standards.
Heavy-Duty Retaining Walls
Why do you supply wet-cast concrete blocks instead of dry-cast?
Standard dry-cast landscaping blocks are porous and absorb water, leading to crumbling during harsh Kootenay freeze-thaw cycles. We supply wet-cast Redi-Rock Ledgestone blocks because they are dense, highly durable, and engineered to survive the elements while holding back massive commercial loads.
Do I need geogrid for a Redi-Rock retaining wall?
In many cases, no. Because our Redi-Rock blocks are massive (often weighing over a ton) and feature an interlocking design, their sheer weight does the heavy lifting. This allows us to build taller gravity walls closer to your property line without the invasive excavation required for geogrid tie-backs.
